Parenting Classes and Divorce Classes in Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley

Fort Collins Parenting Classes

If you are seeking a divorce with children, legal separation with children or allocation of parental responsibilities you are required to take a parenting class/course. The goal of these classes are to help both parents increase their parenting skills and learn how to protect the best interest of the child(ren). We have had clients tell us that they wish they took the course much earlier in the divorce process rather than wait until the divorce papers have been filed.

Most people can take the basic parenting course, however in high conflict cases a Judge or Magistrate may require a high conflict course (also called Level 2). If it is an extremely high conflict situation the Court may order additional hours of classes or one-on-one parenting courses or parent coaching. It is not required to complete the class with the other party.

Below you will find a list of local businesses providing this service in person and on-line. Make sure that in your individual case you are approved for an on-line course as some Judges and Magistrates may require you to take an in-person class to satisfy the courts requirements. You will be issued a certificate of completion that must be filed with the Court.

Most of these companies offer two options:

  • Basic Parenting Class or Level 1 – provides information about how children are affected by divorce or separation and how parents can address these challenges through effective communication and parenting time. The average class time is 2 to 4 hours. Classes may include information for divorced parents, never-married parents, and/or high conflict situations.
  • High-Conflict Parenting Class or Level 2 – provides an intensive course usually consisting several sessions. You and the other parent will learn and practice the communication skills that will help you work together to keep your children out of the middle of your conflict.
